January 2000 – formation first informal Committee.
23 June 2000 –
Seminar with guest speakers Professor Leslie Bunt from MusicSpace Trust, Bristol, Dr Gary Ansdell, Research Associate at Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Centre, London and David Walters, Director Coda Music Trust and Music Research Institute, Christchurch. Resolution passed unanimously to establish a Centre for Music and Music Therapy in the Region.

2001 – Week long Bude Festival of Music bringing quality music to the Community. This has now become an annual event.
2001 – Published by Sound Waves South West first Directory ‘On the Record’: a twice yearly diary of Music and Music related events held within a 50 mile radius of Bude. This is provided free to those making entries and at point of pick up. The circulation is now 3,500 copies.

Obtained Registered Charity status: Number 1089223


18 February 2002 - A two day Seminar/Workshop hosted by SWSW ‘Children in Crisis’. First day - Professor Leslie Bunt and Eleanor Tingle from MusicSpace Trust. Second day Mr Ben Saul, A Music Therapist with Greenwich Primary Care NHS Trust and Chelsea and Westminster Mental Health Trust together with Tim Swingler of the Soundbeam Project.
18th – 22nd February 2002 - ‘Good Vibrations’ sponsored by Sound Waves South West – a week of musical experience for children.
July 2002 – Workshops at 8 local schools bringing ‘Graffiti Classics String Quartet’ in partnership with Live Music Now! SW.
September 2002 - pilot instrument loan scheme consisting of four violins and four cellos introduced at St Marks School, Morwenstow.


July 2003 – Workshops brought to 8 local schools.
September 2003 – four clarinets added to the SWSW instrument loan scheme at Bude Junior School and 2 flutes at Kilkhampton Junior School.
September 2003 – creation of the Sound Waves Music Therapy Team with the first two Music Therapists working under the auspices of the Charity.


February 2004 – inauguration of Sound Waves Website: www.soundwaves-sw.co.uk
September 2004 – Third Music Therapist joins the Team working in the North Devon area.

25 March 2005 - The Beacon Fellowship ‘Highly Commended’ Certificate was awarded to Judyth Gwynne, Chairman of Sound Waves in recognition of her outstanding contribution to charitable and social causes. Judyth was highly commended in the category of Community Builder.
9th July 2005 - First Music Therapy Conference ‘From Tuning to Attunement: Music Therapy for Schizophrenia’.
October 2005 – Fourth Music Therapist joins the Team working in the North Devon area.


July 2006 - English Traditional Folk song Workshops in Schools.
July 2006 - Bude Festival of Music widens its scope by being renamed ‘The Bude Arts Festival’.
8th July 2006 Music Therapy: ‘Journey to the Centre’.
Late 2006 - A total of 68 instruments now on free loan under the Instrument Loan Scheme (2006 - 2007). Double Bass and Digital Piano purchased for Loan Scheme in memory of the late John Bolitho - Cornish Bard and Founder Member of SWSW.

2007
The Instrument Loan Scheme expands to 70 Members.

15th September 2007 – 3rd Music Therapy Conference: ‘Tuning In’ – An Introduction to Music Therapy.

 

Achievements very impressive - also we could call them stepping stones - the progress in such a short time is considerable - so thanks to the dedication of special people, belief, support and encouragement, commitment and actually a willingness to "fly" - well together we are making it happen - THANK YOU - and let's keep flying !!!!!!!
