Sound Waves South West
1. Reception/Information
Centre and waiting area.
2. Bookstall/Small Music and Art related necessities
to be located in or near Reception Area.
3. Sound Waves South West Administrative Offices for
production of ‘On The Record’, Instrument Loan Scheme, Bude
Arts Festival, management of Music Therapy Team, conferences and training
needs.
4. Small Café area with kitchen facilities and
adjacent childrens play area.
5. Acoustic Room for Music Therapy. (Art Psychotherapists
require a soundproof room 20’ x 20’ as practice room for
a band). Where rooms are jointly used by Art Therapies, they must not
have sinks or wash basins in view. They must be concealed in cupboards.
Specially equipped with piano and tuned & untuned instruments. Access
to room separate and fitted with ramps and wide doorway with video facilities
built-in and video link to parents outside. Seating to be provided.
6. Observation Room & Editing Suite linked to Music
Therapy rooms where several sessions of Music Therapy may take place
simultaneously including individual booths in one room equipped with
TV, monitors and headphones.
7. Physiotherapy Room equipped with hoist, massage
table and hand wash basin.
8. Small Sensory Room and room for Vibro Acoustic Therapy
and Sound Beam equipment.
9. Consulting Rooms – Two. One with small Library,
playback TV facilities and sound recording equipment. (Further Consulting
Suite would be required if local medical practice require additional
accommodation).
10. A Meeting Hall. A facility for music making in
the Community to include an overhead projector and pull-down wall screen.
Uses could include: Speech Therapy, Special Needs Children, After School
and Holiday Clubs for special events relating to music; Kindermusik
for under 5’s; Choir practice; small groups practice room; Eurhythmics
& Dance Therapy; Art Psychotherapy and Drama Therapy. (Art Therapies
require good daylight, washable floors; areas to stack hangings and
other work plus storage large fold/stacking tables and chairs. Walls
suitable to hang art work).
11. Practice Rooms 4 – 6. Small sound-proof rooms
for one-to-one teaching or individual practice; 2 containing a piano/keyboard.
(Music Therapy requires space with dual use of small groups of 2-3 clients).
12. Pottery Room with Kiln (if possible for Art Therapies
but not essential)
13. Lockable secure storage space for
a. Music Therapy & other Musical Instruments.
b. Plan/Chart stores for Art Psychotherapists and cupboard space.
14. Kitchen. Small, utilitarian for staff use equipped
with Fridge, Microwave, Oven, Sink etc.
15. Toilets. - 3 - two regular for staff and visitors,
one disabled - fitted with hoist, changing facilities and shower. Rails,
wide access door & ramps.
16. Garden – Outside Therapy Space for Horticulture
Therapy.
17. Good Car Parking Area which could accommodate 1
– 2 coaches and several cars.
Note: ideally 20,000 square feet required as a start up area with room
for expansion. Easy level access is important.
