Instrument Loan Scheme
The scheme can provide the loan of an instrument to children living in our area. The loan is free. To be eligible each child should be receiving regular tuition for the instrument. The loan is to the parent/guardian who must complete a form to take responsibility for the instrument by insuring it against loss or damage under an ‘all risks’ policy which is usually included in their own household insurance. Each June a list of available instruments from an inventory of around 90 is sent out to all schools in the area and in co-operation with the instrument teachers arrangements are made to supply children with a suitably sized instrument. There is no obligation to continue if the child does not wish to after a trial period. The instrument is returned by the parent/guardian to Sound Waves South West.
In some cases where a young person shows the desire and commitment to continue learning an instrument, the Charity will endeavour to replace a loaned student-grade instrument with a better quality one. The Charity will also listen sympathetically to requests for instruments not currently held and attempt to source them for students subject to funds being available at the time. At the present time support has to be limited to students in Bude and outlying areas.
We hope to encourage as many children as possible to play a musical instrument and are always seeking further funding to expand the scheme.
