A Tribute to Margaret (Maggie) Perryman
1946 - 2011

It is with very much sadness that we have to tell you that, after a long and brave struggle, Maggie has passed on.
Maggie has been a very valued Trustee of Sound Waves South West Music & Music Therapy Trust for 8 years and her star turn was that she ran the very successful instrument loan scheme for children in and around Bude. This scheme started at St Mark’s School, Morwenstow School in 2002 with a group of 4 violins and 4 cellos, this was added to in 2003 when 4 clarinets were bought for pupils at Bude and 2 flutes for pupils at Kilkhampton primary schools. The scheme progressed to 68 instruments including a double bass and a piano in 2006 and the present number of instruments available exceeds 130, mostly violins and cellos.
Maggie’s’ work with the Sound Waves Instrument Loan Scheme continued right up to the end of her life in August 2011 and she will be very much missed by the music teachers and youngsters alike. SWSW is going to find it very difficult to find as dedicated and knowledgeable a person as she to take over the running of this successful scheme. If anyone reading this feels that they may be able to offer help in organising the scheme and / or storing the spare instruments in a back bedroom or large cupboard etc. please get in touch with SWSW.
We know it was Maggie’s hope that her work with children would inspire them in their turn to help others and that her efforts to promote a good quality of life in all its rich diversity would not be abandoned at her death. Had she lived Maggie would have further progressed the scheme to include music workshops and learning opportunities for our local young musicians. It is the hope of all the Trustees that Maggie’s legacy should be built on as she would have wished and that the scheme will continue to bring special opportunities to local youngsters and to inspire them and their families to achieve for themselves and to help others to benefit from music in all its forms.
Thank you Maggie - RIP
