The aims of Sound Waves South West are:

  • To provide Music Therapy within the SWSW catchment area with State Registered Music Therapists.
  • To assist each Music Therapist joining the SWSW team to establish their own practice independent of the charity
  • To promote and encourage further understanding of Music Therapy.

What is Music Therapy?

  • Music Therapy is the interactive, creative and spontaneous use of music in a therapeutic setting
  • It provides a process through which clients can express themselves, become more aware of their feelings and interact more easily
  • It can also provide new insights into a client’s functioning
  • Music is a powerful emotional medium and clients are encouraged to make music with the therapist using a range of accessible instruments

Who can benefit from Music Therapy?

Children and adults with various conditions such as:

  • Autism
  • Communication disorders
  • Learning disabilities
  • Mental health problems
  • Dementia
  • Terminal illness
  • Sensory impairment
  • Physical difficulties
  • Emotional problems
