Each year Sound Waves South West organises professional Workshops for schools in the SWSW catchment area. The professional groups are chosen to introduce children to a wide range of culturally diverse music and the group will carry out workshops throughout the day for a whole week at the various schools that have chosen to participate, giving a total of around 15 workshops (2 each morning and one in the afternoons). The workshops are subject to the necessary funding being obtained and we are very grateful to the D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust and J Paul Getty Jnr Charitable Trust for providing the funding in the past few years.
05-09 October: Vespertine Duo, a professional flute and guitar duo.. Anna ter Haar, flute, and Toby Carr, guitar, widened the local students’ experience in music with performances of early English Baroque music. They visited 12 schools during the course of the week, and the picture on the left below shows their visit to Morwenstow Primary School. A new development for SWSW were Master Classes held at Budehaven Community School and Bude Junior School. Around 20-30 children currently learning to play instruments benefitted from an hour long session with the Duo. This was a wonderful experience for all those who participated, as can be seen from the picture of the guitar players beow. The Master Classes were provided free of charge by SWSW and a grant from the Wessex Youth Trust enabled these special events to take place.
