SWSW Perryman/Bolitho Award

Perryman/Bolitho Award for Musical Achievement

This Award was set up in 2012 in memory of former Trustees Maggie Perryman and John Bolitho both of whom contributed substantially to the work of Sound Waves South West. The award is given yearly to a young person demonstrating Musical Achievement

Applicants must satisfy one or more of the following criteria and must not be a previous winner:

    • Have shown exceptional improvement
    • Have contributed substantially to music in the community
    • Have overcome difficulties

Sadly, there will be no Awards made in 2020 due the difficulties of continuing Music lessons during the Covid-19 lockdown since March. Normally, the winner receives £100 and the runner-up £50, but we will hold over this prize money until 2021, when we can give out twice as many prizes, so we encourage all students to keep practicing!

Congratulations to the 2019 winner, Bobbo Peers, pictured below right, with runner-up Maryasha Elvey and SWSW Patron, Dr Rosie Richardson, who presented the prizes.  Bobbo from the Atlantic Academy is an outstanding musician who plays the saxophone and piano, as well as being an excellent singer.  He has taken the lead role at the Bude Youth Theatre musical productions at Budehaven, having also composed one of the songs for their latest performance.  Maryasha, from West Buckland Prep School, plays the piano and violin.  She also sings in two choirs and plays percussion in the Wind Band at School. They have both made great contributions to Music in the Community in their local areas.
