Mike qualified as a Clinical Music Therapist at the Roehampton Institute, London in 1994. He has over 15 years of experience of working as a Clinical Music Therapist for the British National Health Service as well as in Education – Mainstream and Special Schools – for Charities, Social Services and Privately in the UK, as well as working for 1 year with the elderly in Australia. He has worked with all ages, from pre-school children through to the elderly, and in a variety of settings – he has particular experience of working with and real empathy with those with autism and learning disabilities. Mike moved to Cornwall in 2002 and formally joined the SWSW team in 2003 – he currently works for the Charity in 4 schools in North Cornwall. In June 2010 Mike took a one year sabbatical to work for The Music Therapy Trust India as the course tutor in Delhi. In his time there Mike delivered workshops and lectures in Mumbai and Kathmandu (Nepal) to doctors, psychologists, creative practitioners, care professionals, parents and musicians. Mike continued his clinical Music Therapy work too for an Autism charity in Delhi as well as running and participating in musical activities for street children and learning disabled adults. Mike was pleased to come back to Cornwall and to bring his greatly enhanced skills and experiences to benefit our local children and adults. He also composes, sings, plays the saxophone and keyboard and has played in various local bands as well as singing tenor in a chamber choir.
